A good idea for Billabong Bugs

I'm not sure if these are legal in Australia or not (from what I've heard, Australia is pretty strict on non native aquatic creatures and has made quite a few illegal), but I think it'd be a good idea to try selling some Malaysian trumpet snails as tankmates for your sea dragons...
I think they would be good as:

1) They can tolerate anything from pure freshwater to pure saltwater.
2) They are fast breeders.
3) They have a different function from the winkles and coco snails as they will not eat much algae, but they will specialise in eating detritus.
4) They burrow in the sand, stopping the sand from becoming anaerobic, and as you probably know, anaerobic sand can kill your creatures.

Your right.
Firstly these snails seem to be native to some high alkaline semi saline environments around Brisbane. I have found them in salt marsh habitats around here. I took some home and was very surprised to discover that they will adapt to marine water which would be essential to fit the "Sea of Wonders" stuff. Most people would associate these as the rapidly reproducing snail that burrows in gravel. Some aquarium keeper's hate them because they can get out of control in an aquarium where lots of food is added and so encourages an explosion in their population. Others like them because they perform a very beneficial role of burrowing in the gravel and turning it over much like earth worms do for a healthy garden bed and "Reef janitors" (crabs, brittle stars and worms) do for Marine aquariums. And this role would be very good for the "Passive filtration" method i have mentioned in previous posts. Having a critter that goes down into the gravel and turning it over eating uneaten food and algae etc would be a good thing.
I am currently breeding them up and do intend to add them to the shop soon under the category "Products under trial"
Nice one Jay!

Cool, a new sea of wonders critter's critter. 8-)
Ahh, a wild puggle. Life is hard as a puggle, you need to cuddle with your friends, you need to have fun with the winkles all the time....
