What would you like to see Little Aussie do next ? Wish List

Postby UncleBodman » Sat Jan 12, 2008 10:46 pm

d:) If you are exited by what we are doing here at Little Aussie and are just dying to know what the next cool item is that will appear in the shop or you have seen items out there in the big wide world that would be really, totally explosively cool!!!! and they suit the "Sea Theme" that we are striving to create for our Sea Dragons and Friends,

Why not let us know.
We’d so love to hear you share your dreams and fantasies of what we should do or add next to this ever increasing, extra cute, teeny weeny, meiny mieny, nano world that you can literally carry about the house in the palm of your hand. (As long as you are careful that is  )
We’d love it if you would help us out by putting down a few ideas of your own as to what our little Itsy Bitsy Sea Dragons should be able to have next for their tiny tanks. What about a nice tank you have seen? fish bowls a Vase you’ve seen or a nice light for illuminating the whole show perhaps?
Offcourse some things may not be possible because of technical reasons but you never know unless you ask - so what are you waiting for...?
Let’s get carried away with all the fantastic possibilities and ideas that you’d love to see made available for your Mini Sea Worlds by sharing in this mega wish list spot in the forum.

Bye for now.

i just recently came across your site and products (awesome stuff by the way) and i was wondering if you have, or will be getting a sea medic pack (they're available on the sea monkeys official website but hard to get here) because i recently bought a sea monkey Tank pack (that's before i knew about their Aussie Cousins otherwise i would have got them), and I've noticed some black dots floating around my tank and I've heard that its an oxygen depleting algae and can eventually kill my colony! Do the sea snails you sell eat that type of algae? or will the egg-splosion pack help me?

Cheers

Hello Aussieas,

The Egg-Splosion Pack contains "water quality ‘stabilizer’" which has a positive influence on what grows in your tank and what does not, so it is difinetely worth a try!

Maybee UncleBodman can give you some advice and facts on both Egg-Splosion and Winkles later, since he is the Eggspert, hehe.
Snails eat all kinds of algae, so the winkles or the announced cocoa-colored snails might be an option... Mine are on their way here so I might be able to tell more about their eating habbits in a week or so :-)

As for "first aid", make sure you aerate your tank enough (no closed lid, stir a bit once in a while, and do not overheat it since it will thrive the oxygen out too).
Also do cover the tank lightely so no dust, hairs and such will worsen the waterquality or strangle the Sea-Monkeys & Sea-Dragons.

As for the black spots, use a pipette or a straw (hold it shut with your thumb, dive into the tank, release the thumb so it sucks stuff up, cover again with thumb, remove, repeat) to get most of it out of the tank, simple but yet efficient solution on the short term.
Make soure to rinse/clean everything with boiling water before dipping it into the aquarium tank to prevent bacteria and dirt to get into the water. Also do not use soap or anything like that to clean it.

Another simple "emergency" method is to let a bit of water evaporate; SeaDragons and Seamonkeys can handle quite a bit of changing salt concentration in the water as it evaporates, but many bacteria and algae will not handle this too well. Just make sure you dont let too much evaporate.

Have a nice day and let us know how its working out!

Fresh Water Creatures

Postby aqualeon » Sun May 11, 2008 1:40 am

I absolutely love the sea theme but I also have a couple of fresh water aquariums for Triops, apple snails, fairy shrimps and clam shrimps and I'd love to get some more fascinating creatures into those tanks. I'm sure my current pets would appreciate some Australian company as well. :)

Oh and by the way... I got some "Little Aussie Clam Shrimps" through eBay earlier this week. If I understood correctly they are Little Aussie products as well, aren't they? Well, I was just wondering - being the scientific type and all ;) - what their scientific name might be. I love to put little labels on my aquariums stating what really lives inside the tank....

as a new product you could create ecosphere kits which use your products such as sea dragons or billabong bugs (or any other instant life products you already sell)

here is a video on how to make an easy one yourself

http://pl.youtube.com/watch?v=s_WWG9rTU ... re=related

another great idea i would like to see is an eco dome which can support the life of many of your instant life products but mainly the fresh water ones and maybe even the ant lions

here is a video showing wild sciences eco dome and a couple other of their products

http://pl.youtube.com/watch?v=R34VIr_qnL8

i think you will be able to create such a thing not just a copy of their product but a version of their product that compliments your own creatures that you have

were you also thinking of selling stick bugs on your website as well? because i would be interested and that would also go well with the eco dome

whatever hapend to bug moss? why isn't it for sale anymore? was it unpopular or were there problems with postage of the item?

I have no idea if anything exists in the natural world like a sleeping crab :P BUT if I could have say, one or two very tiny crabs in my tank, with my little snails and shrimps, that would make me so happy cos they are such cute little creatures! In my opinion! i guess they are a bit more complicated than the little snails though in terms of breakability etc.... !

also, the more live plants and decorations the better I think! :D heehee, I'd love some sea plants like some kind of coral or an aneno.....anemon.....ameno...you know what i mean :)

Oh and when I was trying to see what to buy on the forum, I thought to myself how the packs seemed to be reliant on you already owning certain resources like perhaps a sea monkey tank - from reading on this forum, I realise that this isn't true, that tanks etc. are available seperately on your site - but I think, why not make a pack that includes a tank, as it is a necessity - and maybe keep one that doesn't have a tank, so that those who don't need one can buy just the general pack...I don't know if your tanks would work in that way, but hey, its just an idea...

Also, what about a SUPER PACK! that includes a couple of decorations and extra stuff - I don't know, I'm just thinking it makes it easy for those who just want to buy ONE thing and get going.....nothing else necessary, plus a couple of bonus items...... I know that this doesn't really fall under 'new things', more a new WAY of putting them all together, but it just occurred to me as I was browsing so I thought there would be no harm in passing on my impressions :) I think that this is the only visible advantage of sea monkeys vs sea dragons, is that the packs are v compact and contain everything you might want - v appealing to some!

I know there was a Sea Dragon kit with tank (bowl) on the Little Aussie Products website. It may have sold out though with all of the orders that Uncle Bodman is getting recently from the little spotlight on his business. ;) I am not sure if it included the coral decoration or not. I can't remember.

I agree on both counts! I LOVE the idea of live plants vs plastics. I also LOVE the idea of "starter kits" or "super pack" of some sort.

That's really cool, I hope it appears again some time soon! :)

I kinda wish that on the website, it also showed the stuff that just isn't in stock, just so I could see everything, even if I couldn't buy it :P

What geek war :?:
You are probably thinking about clam shrimp which you can purchase in the same section of the shop as Billabong Bugs and they are called Aqua Aliens. They are similar to the bugs or sea dragons in that that you can hatch them just adding water to the dryed eggs.

The Geek War: http://seamonkeygeek.blogspot.com/2007/ ... agons.html and here: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=103&p=728&hilit=david+and+goliath#p728

And I was referring to the comment by John (on the seamonkeygeek site) "You will be amazed at the animals that I’m experimenting with at the moment, some of them tiny little ball shaped creatures that I will soon ad to the list of creatures available, the little ball creatures will be called 'sea bubbles', others that look like little clams and a variety of snails that will help to create an interesting 'sea theme'."

So I don't know if that is the clam shrimp or not. :?: I was just day dreaming about miniature clams with the sea dragons;)

Yeah, these would be the clam shrimp (Aqua Aliens) and they are available but they can't be kept with sea dragons as they live in fresh water.

would it hurt to have a little more competitions? with more advertisement? newsletters each month? more products for the freshwater bug range? killi fish as a new product i have recently bought some eggs from thailand worked great really cheap too very colourful and real easy. more land critters? more advertisement over the net? ( i would be more then happy to bring this to ebay, oztion and the tradingpost if i became a promoter or a franchiser of the little aussie products shop.

also more tank designs for billabong bugs i have many good ideas i would love to help out but i dont know where to start or who to talk to so i geuss this is the best place to start?

have you thought of advertising on tv? or on a resort tv channel or radio station (radio station probably not so helpful) but advertising on tv would deffinately help more people to see what you have to offer.

you might want to advertise on http://www.insectfarm.com.au/ they have quite a large range of insects maybe you could team up with them or have them advertise them on your website and you on theirs.

maybe send advertisement catalogs to schools locally to encourage them to use your kits for science research, class pets or a fund raiser (good because u get lots of advertisement and lots of sales)

of course with this you would need more staff pretty easy to hire teenagers who are looking for a part time job especially pet shop related, but try and hire people who share the same passion as you do in these critters for all the obvious reasons.

i really want to see this business booming

also would it hurt to have holiday season sales? maybe a sale on Australia day? that would be cool but there won't be much sales if there isnt much advertisement

i would really like to help out

your enthusiastic friend luke

Basically a lot of these things is what Little Aussie is heading for. It is a small company and it is growing. Not so long ago new staff was hired and billabong bugs were on tv. After that there was a lot of work since many people heard about them. And now there is constant growth with new products, mostly for the sea dragons. I would agree on the advertisement part. But still everything is moving forward.
Yeach, it's been some time since the last competition.

Hi Lipkel
Thanks for your ideas.

Yes we are looking into a lot of different things to go forward with. One of my main focuses has been the expansion of the “Sea of Wonders” range of critters and a complete care range to go along with them, including and not unlimited to anything that you can keep a conventional fish pet with that is currently available at pet stores and the like (and I mean anything) but made in miniature to suite the “Itsy Bitsy-ness of the whole thing “ , The accessories would be ranging from decor to filtration systems a variety of food choices and even medicines if they get sick. For example I have just finished our new "Itsy Bitsy magnetic algae cleaner” which measures all of 12 mm ½ inch in diameter. He He But all off this takes lots and lots of research and time, lots and lots of time!

Secondly we have been very quick to launch into further investigations on how to mass culture Billabong Bugs (Aussie Triops) as they are not the easiest critters to mass culture for various reasons. We are making great head way in this area too and hope to eventually have stock on hand at all times rather than the start and stop again supply that we are battling with at the moment. There’s no such thing as a “Triops farmers manual” out there like there is for crayfish or prawns or for cows and chickens and even these farmers struggle with the challenges of supplying on demand. So we have to do all the research our selves. We are pioneering new things for the world and that makes it essential for customers to have patience when we get started with new products .

Other big plans are to expand the range of weird and wonderful critters for the “Aqua Aliens” range. Essentially I hope to offer a wide range of other fresh water hatch outs that will be compatible with the current Aqua Aliens (Clams). There are several other clams species I have been working on and one of them measures nearly an 3 .5 cm - 1 ½ inches long! I am working on Fairy shrimp, again I have a giant fairy that we are currently egg harvesting that grows to 5 cm, (2 inches) and amazingly even ironically the females are pink and the males are blue 
Daphnia that I am investigating could also be a new addition. One of the really kooky creatures that I am having some fun with at the moment (but no way near ready so please don’t ask for any of these critters ok guys!!!) are what are sometimes referred to as "water brains" They look like a plant/coral thingy with tentacles that will grow on the sides of the tank or on rocks like a gelatinous barnacle and literally react and wobble and make all sorts of bizarre gyrations when ever you get to close to their tank almost as if they are angry with your presence for being there. It is quite hilarious to watch.

I really like the idea of the killifish too as a result of your suggestion I think I will start some new categories

I will create a category for

Killifish
sea monkeys
Triassic Triops
Other instant pet brands.

This will allow other users to come into the forum and be able to ask questions about their products when they are having trouble. As there really isn’t a universal information resource on the web out there that ties these instant pets together I think it is time we do so.

Things for people to do would be to suggest an “instant life” article to be written on Wikipedia. Start the article. Research who was the first to sell an instant life product. Who was it. I bet you think it was sea monkeys., right. Well your wrong if you think so. Go and do the research in fact I think I will make this the new competition. As this one is easy Ill just make it a small price. It will be one off our new powered bubbler units article, (photos and link in shop coming soon) to be attached to an air pump like for fish tanks and a packet of Egg-splosion and the new “Fading baby disease” medicine that we have just released into the shop. (Article and further details to be added here shortly.)

What would be awesome for a little sea world, Is a small crab or octopus and i mean small! I understand they could be a threat for the dragons and other guys. But it would be soooo cool to have a small octopus the size of a thumbnail, living with the monkeys, Dragons, Bubbles and snails. and if they come back the puggles. I can see it now. a dried out little octopus very careful not to harm it, drop it in the water then... *BAM!* it's alive!
